Alan Mason is the chair of the League of American Orchestras Board. He is also a current board member of the Monterey Symphony, prior president of the Board of the Association of California Symphony Orchestras, and a prior board member of the Oakland Symphony, Santa Rosa Symphony, and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra. He recently retired as managing director at BlackRock, where he served on the firm's Global Diversity Steering Committee and was a founding member and global sponsor of its LGBT employee network. Mason earned a B.A. in Music from Baylor University, summa cum laude; an M.A. in Musicology from the University of Louisville, with honors; and an M.A. in Ethnomusicology from UC Berkeley. He played oboe and English horn with the Waco Symphony Orchestra and Louisville Symphony. Mason lives in Pacific Grove, California with his husband Timothy Rodrigues.
